    ABOUT THE PLAY

Daughter Mary-Rose has moved away to Toronto. Mom doesn’t want to waste money on expensive long distance calls so she’s recording all the news on tape to send to her. Dad can’t keep up, zany Gramma, with her Gaelic outbursts, is dealing with the out of control cat and they can’t seem to avoid all the other colourful residents of their tiny Nova Scotian community. This sweet, funny and whimsical play by Atlantic Canadian favourite, Mary-Colin Chisholm, is a celebration of story, family ties and a longing for home.

    The Shoplifters

Location: Theatre Baddeck -24 Queen Street, Baddeck NS, B0E1B0

    Date: July 11 - August 18

    ABOUT THE PLAY

Alma is a career shoplifter at the local Co-op, with a knack for getting the "five-finger discount." When she's caught in the act by Dom, an overzealous security guard, there's more revealed than the steak she has stuffed up her skirt. Along for the ride is Phyllis, Alma's hapless accomplice who doesn’t share Alma’s cool demeanour or knack for snappy comebacks. Dom is ready to lock them up and throw away the key, but his affable senior partner, Otto, intervenes with a more sympathetic view of the crime. As these four oddball characters share their wildly different takes on the situation, complex views on morality and ethics begin to emerge in this biting comedy by one of Canada's finest playwrights.

    Festiville Baddeck

    Location: Baddeck

    Date: August 5

FestiVille Baddeck is a street festival for all ages. Our third annual FestiVille will be bigger and better than ever. ... We are celebrating 2 nights this summer, Saturday, July 6th & Monday, August 5th, 2019, free of charge, from 6:00 PM–9:00 PM, on the Main Street in Baddeck.

We're counting down the days to FestiVille Baddeck, back in our beautiful village for night #2 Monday, August 5! Did you hear who's dropping by? Còig!! We can't wait!

Bringing together four of the region’s most accomplished instrumentalists—Chrissy Crowley, Rachel Davis, Darren McMullen and Jason Roach—Còig is one of Atlantic Canada’s most exciting Celtic traditional groups. With the fiery Celtic high-energy style at its musical core, Còig easily shifts between century old tunes of past generations to original and upbeat compositions featuring the band’s range of over a dozen instruments (vocals, fiddles, guitars, banjo, mandolin, viola, bouzouki, whistles, and more). The combination of driving tunes, haunting songs and infectious energy makes Còig an unparalleled musical force.

Other acts for August 5, 2019 include the Prvateers, Motus Fire Buskers, Helicopter Rides, Horsback riding, the Pirates of Sydney and much more.

The six MacNeil siblings are widely regarded as one of the greatest live concert acts in the Celtic world. Hailing from Sydney Mines, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the family group is deeply rooted in Celtic music, culture, dance, language and history. Their numerous critically acclaimed recordings have included their own original songs as well as tried and true standards, both instrumental and vocal. Very exciting indeed for all of us up here on the northern tip of Cape Breton!
